Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Review: Premium Ambition, Balanced Reality

Andy KhanSr. Systems EngineerFeb 03, 2024

The Redmi Note series has always been defined by aggressive pricing and disruptive value. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ changes that narrative. It is the most expensive Redmi Note to date, and also the most advanced. Curved premium design, 1.5K AMOLED display, Dimensity 7200 Ultra, 200MP camera, 512GB storage, and extremely fast charging—on paper it feels like an automatic purchase. In reality, the story is a bit more layered.

Price and Positioning

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ lands in the $380$400 price zone, traditionally a battleground where Xiaomi’s own “T Series” devices have dominated. The biggest internal rival is the Xiaomi 13T, originally priced around $420, and even though availability is increasingly limited and pricing creeps toward $450, its existence matters because it offers:

  1. Leica camera tuning
  2. Stronger chipset (Dimensity 8200)
  3. Better water resistance
  4. Longer software support

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ does not try to defeat the 13T. Instead, it becomes the fallback option when the 13T is unavailable. And in today’s phone market, that situation is surprisingly common.

Design and Build: Redmi Note Goes Premium

This is easily the most “premium-feeling” Redmi Note ever produced.

  • Curved front and back glass design
  • Colorful, eye-catching finishes
  • IP68 water and dust resistance, a rare spec at this price
  • Solid hand feel without losing Redmi’s playful identity

It feels significantly more expensive than previous Redmi Note devices and competes well against similarly priced rivals in terms of aesthetics and durability.

Display: High-End Specs That Deliver

The display might be the strongest reason to buy this phone.

  • 6.67-inch AMOLED
  • 1.5K resolution
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • Up to 1800 nits brightness
  • Gorilla Glass Victus
  • Dolby Vision support

This screen punches above its class. It is bright outdoors, smooth in daily use, and visually rich for media consumption. Xiaomi nailed the display experience.

Performance: Strong Enough, Not Class-Leading

Powered by the Dimensity 7200 Ultra, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ performs well but not exceptionally. It sits exactly where its price suggests.

Gaming benchmarks reflect balanced mid-high capability:

  • Mobile Legends: stable high FPS around 100+
  • PUBG Mobile: smooth at 60 FPS
  • Genshin Impact: around mid-40 FPS on max settings

It is fast enough for most users and smooth in daily operation, but it does not challenge performance-focused devices like the Xiaomi 13T or Poco X6 Pro.

Thermals are acceptable, peaking around 42–43°C during extended gaming sessions. It neither overheats nor impresses with exceptional cooling. Simply “good enough” performance.

Battery and Charging: The Highlight Feature

Battery performance is stable, not groundbreaking.

  • 5100 mAh
  • Average drain in mixed use
  • Reasonable efficiency
  • But the real showstopper is charging speed.
  • Around 50% in 10 minutes
  • Around 100% in under 30 minutes

This level of fast charging drastically changes real-world usability. Even brief charging moments restore meaningful battery life. It is one of the fastest-charging mainstream phones available.

Software and Updates

Out of the box, the phone launches on MIUI based on Android 13 rather than Android 14, which feels slightly behind competitors. Software support is:

  • 3 years of major Android updates
  • Transition planned to HyperOS

This positions it decently for longevity, even if not industry-leading.

A drawback remains Xiaomi’s ad strategy. Even at this higher price class, system ads still appear—frustrating on what is now a premium-priced Redmi Note.

Camera: Great Main Sensor, Weak Ultrawide

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ builds its camera identity around a 200MP primary sensor, and it performs well with:

Strong detail

  • Punchy yet controlled colors
  • Good contrast, slightly reminiscent of Xiaomi’s Leica tuning influence
  • However, weaknesses appear quickly:
  • Ultrawide camera quality drops significantly
  • Noticeable noise
  • Lower clarity vs competitors
  • Night performance inconsistent outside the main lens

Front camera video recording reaches 1080p/60, but stabilization only works at 30 fps, meaning users must choose between sharp motion or stable footage.

Overall: the main camera is excellent for the price. The supporting cameras feel like afterthoughts.

Value and Competition Context

This device does not exist in isolation. In the $350$450 range, competition is fierce. Rivals push hard with:

  • Better processing power
  • Better camera consistency
  • Cleaner software

Historically, Xiaomi phones in this price bracket were automatic purchases. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ breaks that tradition. It forces consideration, comparison, and evaluation rather than blind confidence.

That is not necessarily bad; it simply means this phone isn’t the “destroy everything” Redmi formula the internet is used to.

Conclusion: A Premium Redmi Note With Real Strengths and Clear Limits

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is a refined, stylish, and capable upper-mid-range smartphone. It delivers:

  • Premium curved design
  • Fantastic display
  • Useful IP68 rating
  • Blazing fast charging
  • Great main camera
  • Huge 512GB storage standard

It balances that with:

  • Mid-tier performance
  • Average battery efficiency
  • Weak ultrawide camera
  • Software ads
  • Shorter update support than some rivals

It is not disappointing—it is simply fair. A strong alternative in its price segment, but no longer the obvious “default winner” Xiaomi phones used to be.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Value Score: 8 / 10

Excellent in design, display, and charging. Respectable in performance. Average in camera versatility. Worth buying depending on availability, expectations, and personal priorities.
